.Cronut or Cronot.

Finally!!!

There is a place in Auckland where you can experience what the rest of the world has been talking about.

It is a cross between croissant and donut.
It looks like a donut but taste like a croissant with crunchy texture and lightly coated with sugar.
It is available at Takapuna Beach Cafe but you need to get there early as it will sell out before midday!

.Local Fix #2.

Good morning Foodies!

Welcome to my Local Fix, brunch edition.  Foodies should be familiar with Dominion Road, this popular stretch is well known for its Asian cuisine but there are also plenty of bakeries and cafes to go to for a wake-me-up weekend brunch.

875 Dominion Rd
Literally up the road from our place, this little French Patisserie offers a wide selection of French pastries and sweets.  The Patissier of this bakery is from Japan and have worked alongside Pierre Herme.  So with its strong French connection it is no wonder this humble local was awarded Best Bread by Metro.  It's so popular that their counter is almost cleared out by the lunchtime crowd so make sure you pop in early.

218 Dominion Rd
This funky cafe serves up Coffee Supreme coffees and their brunch menu is very different from your usual in that they cater for mexican food lovers, vegans, dairy and gluten free foodies.  I love Vinyl's version of porridge, it's made from brown rice with poached plums and cinnamon.  The taste & texture is unique while it's also a healthy substitute to the oaty kind and not to mention how great you'd feel after eating it.  Vinyl oozes an eclectic vibe, from their alternative house rock to their mix of clientele from young hipsters and bikers to families and elderlies.  It's worth the visit especially if you feel like veering from your same old and with a bunch of friendly staff, affordable prices and most importantly, really really good espresso coffees, why wouldn't you?

360H Dominion Rd

This place is so popular on the weekends that if you go any later than mid-morning, getting a table is near impossible.  Cereal Killa puts their own twist on standard cafe cuisine like french toast with poached nectarines & coconut passionfruit custard; a bacon omelette with tomato, pesto, parmesan served with a bloody good chutney.  The highlight for me is their signature porridge, a coconut base with pear, ginger, rhubarb and a drizzle of caramel sauce around the edge of the bowl.  Even if you're not a porridge lover, I guarantee you will be by the end of it.  Their barista Lili took out the outstanding coffee establishment/barista award for 2013, which explains why they always deliver topnotch coffees  even when they are super busy plus their take away coffees are served with a little java on top, now that's a nice touch.  So ensure you come early for a table but if you do have to wait why not visit the vintage shop across the road for some home inspiration while you do.

Now enough of me talking, be sure to try it out when you're in the hood.

.Local Fix #1.

Welcome to the first of a series of neighbourhood posts from the girls at The Weekend Fix.  So if you're ever in the hood, be sure to check out some of our local haunts.

.Little & Friday.
Down Eversleigh Rd, Belmont
Nestled away from the busy main road is the ever so popular Little & Friday.  Patrons are met by their quaint shabby chic interiors alongside a delectable selection of instagram-ready bakes & sugar creations.  Their mouth-watering treats are served on vintage plates & silverware adding to the charm & experience of this neighbourhood cafe.  Famed around town for their yummy doughnuts, I must confess I have yet to try one!

.La Tropezienne.
Off Lake Rd, Takapuna
Step through the sliding doors & we are instantly transported to its seaside namesake as we're greeted by their friendly French staff and the delicious aromas of fresh pastries & sweets.  We make it our mission to try something different every time from pain au chocolat to tarte aux myrtilles, the options are endless.  La Tropezienne is where we'd go to satisfy cravings for authentic French pastries & a good mocha.

.Scratch Bakers.
Located in City Works Depot
Scratch is our new go-to spot for a work day hunger fix.  Their generous sized pies are every bit gourmet with fillings such as rabbit, white wine & leek to confit duck and beef cheeks - oh my, yeah I'm a pie girl!  But if savouries don't tickle your fancy,  then their selection of freshly baked treats like pear frangipane tarts, medley of doughnuts or sugary churros should do the trick.

Till next time,

.Our Thrifty Haul Challenge.

What started as a mere dare turned into a whole lot more.  Armed with a budget of $40, we had to hunt for a complete outfit from one of our go-to department stores.  Bring it on!

.PS's Haul.
Boyfriend tee, skinny jeans, heels, arm swag for a total of $39.  Sweet.

I'm digging the off duty look, relaxed yet weekend ready with a touch of feline cool.  It took two rounds of meticulous hunting and ruthless editing but I got there in the end with my toddler in one arm and my haul in the other.  Flushed with the feeling of overwhelming success, it's not everyday we find a full look for under 40 bucks!

.VL's Loots.
Black tee, harem pants and flats for a total of $40

It was love in first sight with the black and white floral harem pants so I basically picked my top and shoes to match it.  I ran out of money for accessories to go with my outfit as I spent more than half the budget on the pants and I only just managed to get my top and shoes to fit into the budget.  Who would have thought $40 to get a complete outfit would be that hard?!

.Mrs BC's Finds.
Black dress, flats, neck & wrist candy & bow belt for a total of $40

Keeping true to my style of everything pretty with a touch of black {ok alot of black! } I found a cute dress to act as a canvas for the pretty accessories.  I am completely obsessed with the bow belt and it would have to be the best find ever!  Love the accent of the gold which brings a little bit of glam.  Put them all together and it's Mrs BC to a tee.  What a challenge!  I didn't think I'd find a whole outfit for $40, it took many goes in the changing room before the look was right and fit the budget!  I breezed a huge sigh of relief and left feeling like I had accomplished something for the day.

Stay tuned for our next shopping challenge...
Love, from us.
