.Woodfired Pizza.

Dante's

We decided to watch Star Trek on Friday night, the movie was awesome by the way.  And if you haven't been, you are missing out!  I would highly recommend watching it in IMAX as the 3D effects were amazing!!!

Anyway, back to our topic... we decided to head to Ponsonby Central to hang with the hipsters and landed at Dante's for some real woodfired pizzas.  According to their website, they are the FIRST and ONLY New Zealand Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN) certified woodfired pizza - whatever that means!  I have heard really good things about this place so we decided to try it out.

Here's what we had...

.Regina Margherita D.O.C.
Tomato, E.V.O.O, fresh mozzarella di bufala, fresh basil

.Chorizo Reale.
Tomato, mozzarella, chorizo

All of their pizzas are tomato base with mozzarella cheese so their flavours are very similar.  Chorizo Reale came with deliciously spicy chorizo and Regina Margherita had the perfect made-in-heaven combo of tomato and basil.  If you love the experience of pulling cheese as you bite into your pizza, you would love this place.  The use of fresh mozzarella on their toppings bring a different flavour to your standard pizza and it is definitely not as greasy, which feels like you're having a healthier version of a cheesy pizza. The pizza base was a big doughy for my liking but the fresh tomato base with stringy mozzarella made up for it.

If you are looking for simple tasty tomato mozzarella pizza baked in a real woodfired oven, come and visit Dante's.
